From the town of Toulouse came one of France’s most famous artists, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, whose Impressionist renderings of Paris’s nightlife inspired the aptly named Toulouse Skirt. Borrowing from the construction of can-can petticoats, this skirt’s irregular pleating evokes not only the master stroke of an international artist but the exuberance of a night spent at La Moulin Rouge.
